Trophia
provides high quality research and advice for the sustainable
management of marine resources.
Data
Analysis and Modelling
Trophia has considerable
experience in data analysis to aid in the assessment
of fisheries and other natural resource systems.
Trophia employs methods such as regression models,
generalised linear models, principal components
analysis and cluster analysis in the statistical
analysis of data.
Models of fisheries and other natural resource systems
have been developed, and used to estimate the status
of the resource and assess the efficacy of alternative
management strategies.
Trophia provides
services in planning, implementing, and managing
fisheries data collection projects. Specific sampling
regimes are designed for each project, and evaluated
with respect to long term management objectives.
Trophia personnel have experience in observer sampling,
independent surveys, and underwater surveys of marine
resources in temperate and tropical environments.
Trophia has extensive
skills in the design and management of databases
for fisheries catch and effort data, and long-term
resource monitoring programs. Our data management
services include data entry procedures, data validation
and summary reporting.
Where available
the results of data analysis and modeling can be
used to formulate management policy. In other situations
Trophia has experience in the collection and synthesis
of information on fisheries systems. Such work can
be vital in rapidly assessing fisheries for which
there is little existing information.
This is often the case in less-developed countries
where our research has encompassed fishing methods,
timing and location of fishing activities, fish
trading structures and other socio-economic aspects.
Such comprehensive research allows us to properly
formulate policy recommendations for sustainable
fishing practices.
