The Ministry of Fisheries research project "TRE 2001/02 Stock assessment of trevally in TRE 7" was completed by Trophia and included an analysis of CPUE and stock assessment modelling. The results were presented to the Pelagic Fisheries Assessment Working Group in February 2003. In reviewing the results of the project, the WG identified two areas where additional work was needed:
- The high inter-annual variability in CPUE
- The potential for age-specific mortality
The New Zealand Ministry
of Fisheries (MFish) accepted a proposal from Trophia
to investigate these two areas further.
